The Honors Program is happy to announce Jennifer Drake as the winner of The Honors Outstanding Student Award! Jennifer is a Honors student in the music department with a second major in special education. She is currently working on her Honors Thesis (“How singing can help those with communication disorders to attain and develop speech”). She has immense experience with individuals with disabilities as well. She has worked in the BSU Children’s Physical Development Clinic (CPDC), BSU Buddies, Circle K, and Americorps’ JumpStart. She is a member of the BSU chapter of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), she has planned and taken part in music programs for Camp Sunshine, a camp for children with terminal illnesses.
She has also taken on various leadership roles such as group leader in CPDC, secretary and president of BSU Buddies, and vice president of the BSU chapter of NAfME. Through Jennifer’s actions she has embodied the core values of the Honors Program, academic excellence, leadership, civic engagement, and service. Once again congratulations to Jennifer Drake. We hope to continue honoring students with this award in the future.
